Anglican Central Primary School One, Oke-Nla in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State has called on its old pupils and kind-hearted Nigerians to help protect its 125-year history and upgrade its decaying infrastructure.
The management said such intervention would complement what the state government is already doing in the education sector.
Established as the ninth primary school founded by Anglican missionaries in Nigeria, the institution is celebrating 125 years of existence this week.
Its Head Teacher, Mrs Elizabeth Alao, said preserving the legacy of the historic school is a collective task. While addressing journalists at a press briefing in the school, Alao commended the Ogun State Government for its investment in public schools, but noted that government alone cannot meet all the needs due to the huge number of schools under its care.
She therefore appealed to alumni, corporate bodies, and philanthropists to support the school in safeguarding its heritage and fixing its infrastructure gaps.
Also speaking, a Primary Six pupil of the school, Odetomi Desire, on behalf of other learners, pleaded for urgent help to improve learning facilities in the school.
