NATIONAL POLICE DAY: STAKEHOLDERS FELICITATE WITH OGUN STATE POLICE COMMAND

In celebration of National Police Day, which was officially flagged off on April 2, 2025 across all formations of the Nigeria Police Force, critical stakeholders in Ogun State joined the command in solidarity for the week-long event. The Police – Citizen Dialogue was attended by PCRC members, repsentatives of the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education, Council of Oloritun of Ijebu Ode, Miyetti Allah, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and Local Government Chairmen from Odeda, Ifo, and Ikenne. Civil Society Organizations were also in attendance to commemorate the maiden edition of this national celebration with a town hall meeting held at Ogun State Police Command headquarters today, the 3rd of April , 2025.

Stakeholders at the town hall meeting expressed unwavering support for the men and women of the Nigeria Police Force. They commended officers who have distinguished themselves in the discharge of their duties and offered solemn prayers for our fallen heroes who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.

Representative of the Civil Society, Mr. Folarin Olayinka applauded Ogun State Police Command’s sterling performance but raised concerns over the menace of land grabbing and the incessant transfer of case files from the command to other police formations.

In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP. Lanre Ogunlowo reassured the gathering that land disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the courts. While admonishing citizens to avoid violence, he reiterated the command’s strict compliance with the directive of the Inspector General Of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun P.hD, NPM to flush land grabbers out of Ogun State.

Similarly, the student union representative from Olabisi Onabanjo University commended the Command’s community policing effort but appealed for better collaboration between police officers on stop-and-search duties and the students. He urged officers to refrain from profiling individuals with luxury gadgets as cybercriminals. The Commissioner of Police assured guests that more town hall meetings would be held to address concerns by members of the public and strengthen police-community relations. He also lauded the Inspector General of Police for designing a program aimed at fostering community trust and engagement during the week-long celebrations.
