Protest: Ogun relatively peaceful – PPRO

As the nationwide protest started on Thursday, the police command in Ogun had described the situation across the state as relatively peaceful.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Omolola Odutola, made this known in a statement in Abeokuta.

Odutola noted that visibility policing was captured across the state.

She explained that the Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, had addressed policemen and other security agencies deployed to the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, the designated protest ground.

The spokesperson said that following a routine patrol and careful monitoring, residents were seen going about their lawful businesses while motorists were conveying passengers to their destinations.

“Few shops were closed due to uncertainty but shop owners were within the vicinity of their businesses observing the situation.

“But not long, normal business activities and unrestricted pedestrian and vehicular movement resumed across the state,” she said.

Odutola said that the commissioner of police had urged officers and men to maintain high level of civility, courage and professionalism.

She stated that the commissioner had told officers and men to apply utmost discretion toward any form of provocation in case of a protest.

“A stakeholders’ security meeting was held at the state command on Monday where stakeholders made a commitment distancing themselves and their wards from any form of protest.

“They assured that they will not be a part of any protest but rather support the government of the day in its economic reforms and social welfare for all citizens.

“Evidently, there are no protests in the state and the commissioner of police is on ground to ensure there are no breakdown of law and order.

“The commissioner has continued on routine patrol and visibility policing and he has further called on residents to go about their lawful activities void of anxiety and panic,” she said.
