President Bola Tinubu has authorized free train rides across Nigeria for two weeks, starting from December 20, 2024, until January 5, 2025.
This initiative is aimed at reducing the burden of transportation costs during the festive season.
Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, shared the development with journalists at a press briefing in Abuja on Monday.
Idris explained that this move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to make the Christmas and New Year celebrations more affordable for Nigerians, particularly those in vulnerable communities.
“This is consistent with the President’s desire to ease the effect of transportation on Nigerians, especially during this holiday season,” Idris said. “As we did last year, there will be free train service to all Nigerians from December 20 up until January 5.”
The government had previously rolled out similar initiatives during last year’s Christmas period and also for the Sallah period.
The President’s approval this year reiterates his commitment to supporting citizens by alleviating the financial strain of holiday travel.
