SO-SAFE CORPS TRAINS OFFICERS ON MODERN DAY COMMUNITY POLICING

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has successfully concluded a three-week intensive training program on Community Policing and Modern Security Practices for its officers.

This is contained in a statement by the State Commander, Cmdr (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo and made available by the Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi.

The training, which is an annual programme and in conjunction with Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command, is meant to keep all officers and men abreast of the security reality in the state; update them on tackling modern day insecurity and prevent rust in the system.

Likewise, the training is aimed at strengthening the relationship between corps and the communities, focused on equipping officers with the knowledge, skills, and professionalism required to address contemporary security challenges through effective community engagement and intelligence gathering.

The theme for the programme; Community Policing: A Strategic Focus of Security in the 21st Century, was thoroughly treated by the resource persons from the Nigeria Police.

In a general overview, it was emphasized that trust, acceptance and collaboration among other security agencies and communities remain the foundation of successful policing and security operations.

Participants were taught some key principles: transparency and fair hearing, policy and oversight, technology and social media, community policing and crime prevention, training and education, officers readiness and safety

Also, the training emphasized the importance of collaborating and partnering with community leaders, traditional institutions, and relevant stakeholders to enhance security and public confidence, promote justice, fairness, and respect for all individuals regardless of their social status, position, religion, or background, treat every member of the community with dignity and professionalism, resolving community issues through dialogue and lawful procedures while keeping superior officers informed and involved in decision-making processes, avoid unilateral actions and ensure that operational decisions align with the command structure and organizational policies of the Corps.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the State Commander, while appreciating the Commissioner of Police, CP Olubode Ojajuni, psc, for his readiness and inter-agency transfer of knowledge, reaffirms his commitment to building a professional, disciplined, and community-oriented security organization. He encouraged officers to apply the knowledge acquired during the programme to strengthen public trust, improve intelligence gathering, and contribute to the safety and security of their respective communities. Furthermore, the State Commander stressed the importance of sharing learning experience among officers.

The State Commander extends the agency’s appreciation to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Hon. Hamzat, the Permanent Secretary Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi, the SA Security to the Governor of Ogun State AIG Olusola Zubair rtd and the Security and Safety Marshalls of the Corps.

The Commander stated that, the three-week training programme was part of the Corps’ ongoing efforts to enhance operational effectiveness and ensure that So-Safe officers remain among the most professional, responsive, and community-focused security personnel in Ogun State.
