SO-SAFE CORPS RECOVERS SUSPECTED FIREARMS FROM ABANDONED BAG DURING SECURITY PATROL
The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, has recovered three suspected firearms and other items after a fleeing individual abandoned a bag during a security patrol in the Ajibawo area of Ogun State.
In an official statement issued by the state Commander, (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo and made available by the Director of information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Adegunwa Adegbuyi, the Corps disclosed that the incident occurred in the early hours of September 13, 2026, at about 12:35pm, when officers of the Kajola Oke-Ore Divisional Command, while conducting a routine security patrol, sighted a male individual carrying a bag on his back around Success Unit Post, Success CDA, Ajibawo.
According to the report, the officers approached the individual for routine security questioning concerning his movement and the contents of the bag. However, the individual took to his heels immediately upon realising that he was being questioned by security operatives.
The patrol team pursued him, but the individual, upon noticing that the officers were closing in, abandoned the bag and escaped into the surrounding area.
Following his escape, the officers inspected the abandoned bag and discovered a pair of pliers, a measuring tape, a carpenter’s bar, one pistol, one single-barrel firearm and one suspected AK-type rifle.
The recovered items were immediately secured and the incident reported through the appropriate command channels. The matter was subsequently transferred to the Atan-Ota Divisional Police Command for further investigation, examination of the recovered items and appropriate action.
The fleeing individual remained at large as of the time of the report, while efforts are expected to be intensified, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, to identify and apprehend him.
The State Commander, Dr. Soji Ganzallo, commended the officers of the Kajola Oke-Ore Divisional Command for their vigilance, prompt response and commitment to duty, noting that the recovery underscored the importance of sustained security patrols and intelligence gathering.
Dr. Ganzallo reiterated the Corps’ commitment to intelligence-led security operations, protection of lives and property, and effective collaboration with other security agencies in combating crime across Ogun State.
He also urged residents, community leaders and members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly provide credible information about suspicious persons, movements or activities to the appropriate security agencies.
The So-Safe Corps assured the public that all recovered items would be subjected to proper investigation by the relevant authorities, while efforts would continue to establish the identity and possible criminal connections of the fleeing individual.
