SO-SAFE CORPS APPREHENDS SUSPECT FOR ALLEGED VANDALIZATION AND THEFT OF NRC RAILWAY FENCING AT AGBADO, OGUN STATE
The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) has apprehended ahas arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with the alleged vandalization and attempted theft of iron fittings used for fencing the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) railway line at Odewale, Agbado, Ogun State.
In a statement issued by the State Commander, (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo, and made available by the Director of Information and Public Relations, Assistant Commander Adegunwa Adegbuyi, the suspect, Fatai Olamilekan, an aluminum fabricator was nabbed for vandalism at about 10pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, by operatives commands within Agbado/Oke-Aro/Ibaragun Area Command, led by the Area Commander, ACC Akeem Olaiya, during a joint routine patrol around the Odewale Railway Station and its environs.
According to (Dr.) Ganzallo, the suspect, was allegedly found in possession of assorted iron fittings suspected to have been removed from the NRC railway fencing. The items were packed in a sack, allegedly for subsequent evacuation and sale.
During preliminary questioning, the suspect confessed to removing iron components from the railway fencing. He stated that he commenced the operation at about 8pm the previous day and continued until between 9pm and 10pm, before returning home to rest, with the intention of coming back later to evacuate the items he had already gathered.
The State Commander views the vandalization of railway infrastructure as a serious security concern, as the removal or destruction of railway fittings and protective fencing could expose railway facilities to further criminal activities and potentially endanger railway operations, passengers and members of the public.
The Commander, therefore, reiterates its commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and preventing acts of vandalism, theft, and other criminal activities across Ogun State. Members of the public are also encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around railway lines and other public infrastructure to the appropriate security agencies.
The suspect and the recovered exhibits have since been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Odewale Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Dr Soji Gonzallo assured the public that the So-Safe Corps will continue to maintain effective collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to safeguard critical infrastructure and protect lives and property within the state.
