NCS Ogun 1 Command seizes 2026 Range Rover, other contraband items worth N2.5bn within 5 weeks
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, says it has seized a 2026 Range Rover Sport and other contraband goods with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N2.47 billion between Aug. 14 and Sept. 17.
The Area Comptroller, Deputy Comptroller Oladapo Afeni, disclosed this at a news conference on Thursday in Idiroko.
Afeni said the seizures were made at various locations in the state through improved operational strategies, intelligence-led enforcement and enhanced inter-agency collaboration.
He attributed the seizures to the command’s sustained anti-smuggling operations and efforts to strengthen border security.
“Despite prevailing economic challenges along our land borders, the command has maintained a firm stance on legitimate trade facilitation while also ensuring maximum revenue collection,” he said.
The comptroller said diligent duty collection, baggage assessment and physical examination at designated points had contributed millions of naira to the Federation Account.
He added that the command had addressed traditional trans-border bottlenecks and optimised import and export verification processes to facilitate compliant trade, while maintaining strict regulatory oversight on sensitive goods.
Afeni listed the items seized between Aug. 14 and Sept. 17 as 1,204 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 3,893 parcels of cannabis indica, 428 pieces of pneumatic tyres and 8,675 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
Others were 24 bales of second-hand clothes, four sacks of used shoes and 500 litres of diesel packed in kegs.
He said the seizures recorded during the period had a total DPV of N2,469,153,523.68.
Afeni said the seizure of a 2026 Range Rover Sport Autobiography P530, valued at N417.01 million among other items, demonstrated the command’s zero-tolerance policy toward economic sabotage.
He reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests and national security.
The comptroller warned perpetrators of economic sabotage and illegal border activities to desist from such acts, saying the command would continue to enforce the law against such practices.
Afeni commended the Comptroller-General of NCS, Bashir Adeniyi, and his management team for their support.
