One month after Africa News Broadcast report on this issue, Ogun State Police didn’t say anything on the issue and Nigerians want to know why ?.
The news of the death of 16yr old Falolu Seun opeyemi became rife on 16th September, 2024.
Sources informed Africa news broadcast that teenager and his mates were playing football on the field of Presentation Nursery /Primary School owned by The St. Joseph Catholic Church ilaro, which located at Oke okuta, in Ilaro.
We were told that it was when the boy was thirsty, he went to the tap water inside the school. It was said that he opened the tap but it was not running. He , then went up to the filter ,where he drank water.
By Sunday evening,that the incident occured, he started complaining of severe stomach pain.
He was asked what happened and he informed that he drank water at the school.
He was rushed to a private hospitals. The management of private hospital rejected him and advised his parent to take him to Government Hospital
He was taken to the General Hospital,ilaro. He was on the third oxygen( cylinders), the doctor in charge, advised that he boy should be taken to Federal Medical center, Abeokuta.
The doctor who attended to him, wrote in his report that the water drank by the boy contained poisonous substances and this has seriously affected his health
Seun has not been taken away from the hospital before he died.
Residents living close to the School accused the (HM) head of the Mistress for putting chemical inside the water tank because she has always been threatening that he would laced the water with chemical because of people who have always been coming to fetch the water without authorisation.
After the death of Seun,some aggrieved people were hell bent to protest,but Seun’s father persuaded them not to since he has no money to sue the church management to court.
In an interview with the reverend of St Joseph Catholic Church in Ilaro,he told our correspondent that it was the Chemical laced water drank by Seun that caused his death and it as a result of Seun’s headiness that caused the untold incident that happened. The head of Church who did not want us to mention his name or make any recording of the interview added that if dead boy has hearken to the warning he won’t have been there to play ball and drink water there
Immediate the founders of the school heard of the unfortunate incident, they informed the Police so as to protect the to school building and the teacher who the residents accused of the act.
It was also learnt that they invited parents who children are attending the school and explained to them that truly it was the chemical that the deceased drank in the water killed him but it was not chemical that could kill but one that is use for water treatment.
But the residents of the area debunked the seemingly excuses. They added that when the tank was opened,it oozed out smell of chemical.
The mother of the Late Seun said that she is a poor woman who believes that God and the Government will do justice to the matter.
It is in view of this, that Nigerians are calling on the Ministry in charge of Education, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker and the Nigeria Police to investigate the incident thoroughly and be able to tell Nigerians the type of chemical that the water was laced with so as to ensure justice.
