Former Nigerian Army and Police officer, Ogun Local Government retiree remembered for his jovial nature, discipline and devotion to family…

The family of Elder Jeremiah Olusola Fayomi, popularly known as Baba Olopa, has announced burial arrangements for the late patriarch, who passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at the age of 77.

Elder Fayomi was the beloved father of Adenike Fayomi-Olowe and a cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose life, values and memories will remain indelible in the hearts of his family and loved ones.

During his lifetime, the late Elder Fayomi served in the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force before joining the Ogun State Local Government Service, where he eventually retired from active service. His years of service across these institutions formed an important part of his life’s journey and earned him the familiar appellation, _Baba Olopa_, by which he was widely known.

Beyond his career in public service, Elder Fayomi was remembered as a jovial, disciplined, friendly and accommodating man who related warmly with people around him. His cheerful disposition, welcoming nature and sense of discipline endeared him to family members, friends, associates and those who crossed his path.

His life was marked by commitment to family and enduring love. He lost his beloved wife, Deaconess Susan Akpan-Udok Fayomi, on October 3, 2020. Following her death, he chose not to remarry, remaining devoted to the memories of their union and the family they built together.

His passing represents not only the loss of a father and grandfather but also the end of a significant chapter in the Fayomi family’s history. For his children and grandchildren, the memories of his humour, discipline, kindness and enduring presence will remain a source of comfort even in grief.

According to the burial announcement, a Christian wake-keep service will hold on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 4 p.m. The service will be officiated by The Apostolic Church.

The main burial service is scheduled for Friday, October 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. at his residence, Oke Apena Compound, opposite The Rev. Fry Memorial Anglican Church, Isaga Orile, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Ogun State. The Apostolic Church will also officiate at the burial service.

A reception and entertainment of guests will follow on the same day at The Rev. Fry Memorial Anglican Church Hall, Isaga Orile, Abeokuta North Local Government Area, Ogun State.

Born on April 4, 1949, Elder Fayomi lived for 77 years, leaving behind a legacy shaped by public service, family devotion, discipline and warm relationships with others.

For Adenike Fayomi-Olowe, the loss is deeply personal as she mourns her beloved father. The pain of losing a parent is difficult to express in words, but the family draws comfort from its Christian faith and the hope of eternal rest.

The family has chosen the biblical passage of 2 Timothy 4:7 as a fitting tribute to the departed: “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”

As preparations continue for his final rites, relatives, friends, former colleagues, associates and well-wishers are expected to join the Fayomi family in paying their last respects to the late Elder Fayomi.

May the soul of Elder Jeremiah Olusola Fayomi rest in perfect peace.
