SO-SAFE CORPS RECOVERS MOTORCYCLE DURING INVESTIGATION INTO ALLEGED BIKE THEFT IN IFO

The Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps, popularly known as So-Safe Corps, has recovered a motorcycle during an investigation into the alleged theft of a Bajaj Boxer motorcycle belonging to Mr. Ayobami Kushimo, a 31-year-old resident of Aboki Ifa Bus Stop, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The complainant, who is a Mechanical Engineer and an officer of the So-Safe Corps attached to the Onireke Post, reported that his motorcycle was allegedly stolen in the early hours of Friday, September 18, 2026, from his residence.

According to the report, the stolen motorcycle is a Bajaj Boxer with a red and blue-painted fuel tank and registration number JJJ 732 QM. The complainant stated that he acquired the motorcycle on an instalment payment arrangement and was yet to complete the payment at the time of the incident.

Following the distress report, the Acting Divisional Officer (DO) of the So-Safe Corps, Onireke Division, ASC Jinadu Okikiola T., immediately mobilised personnel and led an operational team to the scene of the purported crime to assess the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.

Preliminary investigation at the scene revealed that the suspected perpetrators allegedly gained access to the residence through the kitchen window after removing the window glass. They reportedly entered the kitchen, removed the motorcycle and subsequently opened the passage door before taking the motorcycle away.

Following the incident, the Acting DO commenced intelligence gathering and extended the search to strategic locations and entry points within the community. Community stakeholders were alerted and requested to report immediately if they sighted a motorcycle matching the description of the stolen motorcycle.

During the investigation, the complainant further disclosed that the stolen motorcycle had been developing mechanical faults, including intermittently tripping off after operating for some hours.

As the search continued, at about 10 p.m. on September 18 2026, the Acting DO and other officers received information from a resident Shonekan town. According to the person, he had earlier encountered two unidentified persons in the area between approximately 1:30am and 2am while they were reportedly struggling with a motorcycle during a night vigil. He stated that he challenged the two individuals, but they subsequently fled after he questioned them.

Furthermore, he disclosed that he had remained vigilant and attempted to monitor the area in the hope that the individuals would return for the motorcycle so that they could be apprehended and handed over to the So-Safe Corps.

Acting on the information, the Acting DO and his team intensified their search around the Shonekan/Agbegise boundary. During the operation, a motorcycle was discovered concealed in a bush near the Agbegise River.

The recovered motorcycle was found with registration number PKA 598 VK written in red paint. The motorcycle was recovered as part of the ongoing investigation; however, further investigation is required to establish its ownership and determine whether it is connected to the motorcycle reported stolen by Mr. Kushimo.

On Saturday, 19 September 2026, the Acting DO, accompanied by the complainant, proceeded to the Ifo Police Station where the recovered motorcycle was formally handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation and appropriate action.

As at the time of filing this report, the recovered motorcycle remains in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force at Ifo Police Station pending further investigation.

The State Commander said that photographs and video evidence relating to the complainant’s stolen motorcycle, registration number JJJ 732 QM, as well as photographs and video of the recovered motorcycle bearing PKA 598 VK, have been documented and made available to the relevant authorities for investigation.

The State Commander, (Dr.) Soji Ganzallo, commended the Acting Divisional Officer and officers of the Onireke Division for their prompt response, intelligence gathering, community engagement and sustained efforts in tracing the reported stolen motorcycle.

Dr. Ganzallo reiterated the Corps’ commitment to strengthening community-based intelligence gathering and collaboration with residents, community leaders, hunters and other security stakeholders in the prevention and detection of crime across Ogun State.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements or abandoned vehicles and motorcycles to the nearest security agency to facilitate timely intervention.

The Corps further assured the public that the matter would continue to be handled in accordance with the law, while the Nigeria Police Force conducts further investigation to establish the facts surrounding the alleged theft and the identity and ownership of the recovered motorcycle.
